Assignment
The author and editor supplied Word files for a substantially expanded second edition of Illusions of Justice: Human Rights Violations in the United States. The assignment was to rebuild the complete publication as a contemporary, production-ready book while preserving the character of the original edition.
Challenge
At 569 pages, the project required a system capable of managing dense legal and historical text, multiple levels of hierarchy, chapter openings, front matter, appendices, page numbering and extensive revisions without losing consistency.
My Role
Publication design, InDesign book production, editorial formatting, cover reconstruction, prepress and publishing coordination.
03 / Interior System
A structure built to hold 569 pages
The supplied manuscript was built into an InDesign book and organized through a consistent editorial system for front matter, chapter openings, headings, body text, folios, appendices and navigation across the full publication.
The book’s TOC alone spans multiple hierarchical levels and runs through 23 chapters, appendices and bibliography, which is a good visual proof point for the complexity of the internal system.
The design is intentionally restrained; the primary challenge was maintaining clarity and consistency at scale.

The second edition needed to retain the visual identity of the original book while being rebuilt as a clean, production-ready contemporary file.
05 / Production
From manuscript to finished publication.
The project extended beyond layout and cover design. Final files were prepared for publicatoin, and I coordinated the book through Amazon’s publishing platform from manuscript production through finished release.
